In order to perpetuate the memory of Dunn High School, the DHS Friends Scholarship Fund was established in February 2001, for the purpose of providing financial assistance to high school seniors wishing to further their education at post-secondary institutions of higher learning. Each year DHS Friends offers the scholarships to "motivate students to achieve their life ambitions through higher education." To date DHS Friends Scholarships have provided over $95,000 in grants to deserving high school graduates who are descendants of Dunn High School students, faculty and staff members.
Going forward, the DHS Friends Scholarship will become the DHS Friends' Dunn High School Memorial Endowment Scholarship and will be made available and administered by the Harnett County Community Foundation-Sandhills affiliate of the North Carolina Community Foundation.
